2 3 days ago Full Job Description Posting Details Position Information Job Title Director of Safety and Security Job Description The Director of Safety and Security (Director) provides strategic and operational leadership for the College's safety and security operations.
The Director is responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and direction of the College's safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs.
The Director oversees the implementation of safety and security best practices, including physical security (to include electronic security systems), personnel security, emergency preparedness and response, and risk assessment and mitigation.
The Director develops and implements comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures, emergency preparedness plans, including orientation, training, and drills.
In addition, the Director provides technical guidance, training, and inspection/risk analysis to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local agency standards and regulations.
Essential Duties Summary Lead, plan, organize, manage, and direct all campus safety and security activities in accordance with College procedures and policy.
Provide supervision and direction to security officers and contracted officers.
Continuously monitor and improve campus safety and security using a mixture of human interaction (campus security staff and contracted officers) and technology (mass notification system, access controls, cameras, etc.
).
Chair the Safety and Security Committee, serves as the liaison for first responders and the crisis management team, coordinate responses in case of fire or evaluation, and assumes incident commander role in emergencies.
Collaborate with other agencies (e.
g.
, law enforcement, community professionals, etc.
) to communicate and receive information regarding situations that may affect safety within the College.
Attend board meetings, graduations, athletic events, concerts, and various other community and College events and meetings.
Manage difficult or emotional student, faculty, and staff situations with tactfulness and confidentiality.
Gather and analyze information skillfully, utilize an open, honest, and transparent communication style, reason through complex situations, exercise sound judgment and have the ability to de-escalate tense situations.
Develop, recommend, maintain, and enforce safety and security policies, procedures, and management and response plans for emergencies.
Maintain awareness of all applicable local, state, and federal laws related to campus safety and security.
Develop in-service training programs for security and College personnel that support policy enforcement, fire safety, and accident prevention in the college environment.
Develop, implement, and coordinates emergency preparedness drills such as adverse weather and fire as well as man-made events such as active shooter threats.
Coordinate or conduct OSHA safety training sessions for maintenance personnel, custodial staff, and classified employees.
Conduct workplace safety audits, identifying risks and hazards, and implementing corrective action plans in coordination with the Safety and Security Committee and relevant departments.
Prepare and submit reports and documentation to the College's administration and to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulators and authorities to ensure compliance with applicable environmental protection regulations.
Approve contractor safety plans and monitor the execution of safety programs and procedures prescribed by contract specifications.
Review and organize each incident and accident report for accuracy and completeness.
Serve on committees as needed.

Salary Range Based on experience.
Starting salary range $59,112 to $88,668.
Required Qualifications Required Qualifications Minimum of ten years experience in law enforcement or institutional safety and security is required.
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Safety, or a related field from a regionally accredited university, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement or instutitutional safety and security in senior level management required.
Graduation from a Basic Law Enforcement Training program in North Carolina is required.
Ability to maintain certified law enforcement officer status is required.
Accessible to campus locations for emergencies is required.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
Skills and Abilities Ability to use productivity software, including a general knowledge of word processors and spreadsheets, the ability to send and receive email, and to complete and submit electronic forms.
Employees are expected to perform essential computer skills (log on/off a computer, manage and organize files, print/scan forms using a copier, maintain and recall secure passwords and change password(s) routinely per College procedures).

Understanding of state and local government disaster recovery protocols.
Knowledge of general liability and civil suit claims.
Knowledge of environmental safety practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications Preference for RISK Management for Public Entities (RMPE), ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP), ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP), NIMS.
Physical Demands ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication (oral, visual, auditory), including use of computers.
Be able to lift weights up to 10 pounds on a regular basis, 50 lbs occasionally.
